Hosted by renowned Australian comedian Wil Anderson, "The Gruen Transfer" is a fast, funny panel show about advertising – the perfect television format designed to make you look differently at the constructed world around you.
More than an exposé. Sharper than a satire. It’s about truth in advertising. Finally.
In each episode, the best and brightest minds of the advertising industry face a series of challenges designed to show the thought processes – and, often, the brilliance – of advertising. In highly entertaining segments such as ‘The Pitch’, agencies compete to fulfil an impossible brief, such as selling Iraq as the perfect holiday destination. Viewers can go online and make their own ads – the best of which appear on the show.
Named for Victor Gruen, who designed the very first shopping mall. The term "Gruen Transfer" describes that split second when the mall's intentionally confusing layout makes our eyes glaze and our jaws slacken... the moment when we forget what we came for and become impulse buyers.
