It was announced today that two immensely popular and hilarious comedians, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, will host the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards in 2013.

Tina Fey is known for creating, writing and starring in NBC’s ‘30 Rock’ as well as big screen movies ‘Date Night’ and ‘Mean Girls,’ while Poehler created and takes a starring role in NBC’s ‘Parks and Recreation.’ Both women are also former ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast members and good friends off-screen.

“Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year’s festivities is a major coup,” said Paul Telegdy, the President of Alternative and Late Night Programming for NBC Entertainment.

“Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on SNL to their successful co-starring roles in 'Baby Mama.'"

He was not alone with his praise, as HFPA President Aida Takla-O'Reilly said in a statement,

“The unparalleled comedic timing of Tina and Amy will surely have viewers wanting to tune-in to see them in action.”

This seems to be a major move by the network to attract a higher female audience to the show, as both stars come with large built-in fan bases. It could also be a move away from a slightly meaner hosting style taken by Ricky Gervais in past years, who was known to lambast actors and Hollywood studios in his speeches.

Fey and Poehler have also been known to bring the funny to any awards show they attend - this year, Poehler pretended to swap speeches with award winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and in 2010 they encouraged all ‘Best Actress in a Comedy’ nominees to stand on stage mimicking a Miss America Pageant.
