The sister of US comedian Sarah Silverman was arrested in Jerusalem during a peaceful protest on Monday, along with her daughter. Sarah’s older sister, Susan Silverman, is a Rabbi who was protesting a Jewish law that prevents women from wearing the same religious garb as Orthodox men. The law also discourages women from reading aloud from the Torah at the Western Wall.
The comedian tweeted: “SO proud of my amazing sister @rabbisusan and niece @purplelettuce95 for their ballsout civil disobedience.”
“Ur the tits!” she continued.
The star’s niece also spoke to the ‘Daily News’ about her experience saying:
“I was proud to take a stand for something I believe in. There is inequality at the Western Wall.”
The Silverman family were included among ten people who were detained and released a few hours later.
