Kiwi comedy duo Flight of the Conchords brought the funnies and the warm fuzzies to the ‘Red Nose Day: Comedy for Cure Kids’ fundraiser on Friday night.

Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clements’ new track ‘Feel Inside (And Stuff Like That)’ was composed especially for the event, with the help of primary school children from Clyde Quay School in Wellington and Grey Lynn School in Auckland.

It features some cracking lyrics from the youngsters, including “open up the lids / help-a help-a help-a the kids,” “we can make them better / we can get them some feta” and a warning for Prime Minister John Key to “stop blowing all the money on couches.” Brilliant.

Black Eyed Peas writer and producer Printz Board collaborated on the track, which features the vocal stylings of some of New Zealand’s top musos, including Brooke Fraser, Dave Dobbyn and Savage. It hit the number one spot on iTunes within 90 minutes of release, with proceeds going to to Cure Kids.

"We are really overwhelmed,” Cure Kids chief executive Vicki Lee told Stuff.

“Comedy for Cure Kids was a New Zealand first and the donations go significantly beyond our expectations."

The event has so far raised more than $1.3 million for medical research for children.
