He’s been voted the 'most trusted newscaster in America' by TIME, and now, Jon Stewart has one of the most powerful women in the world falling at his feet!
The silver-fox newscaster appeared on the ‘Oprah Winfrey Show’ yesterday, and O couldn’t hide her admiration for the hard-hitting funny-man, even giving her almighty seal of approval for his upcoming ‘Rally To Restore Sanity’ (which is taking place on October 30 in Washington alongside Stephen Colbert’s rally ‘March To Keep Fear Alive’) with a shout-out to the audience and her four million odd followers via Twitter.
Talking about why he decided to do the rally in the first place, Jon said:
"Seventy to 80 percent of the people in this country are reasonable, nice individuals, may disagree on principle on things, but could come up with rational compromises, could accomplish things, could get things done, could live with the results. And then the other 15 to 20 percent of the country run the place," Jon says. "People don't have time to take sides and to shout. 'Crazy' gets on television, but 'normal' has to make dinner."
"They're [the cable news channels] are scaring the hell out of everybody. This country is not a fragile country. Look how far we've come. We have had our issues. We had a Civil War. We had slavery. Now we're arguing about whether or not Glenn Beck is too hyperbolic?" he says. "We've come a long way."
As to whether the Clown Prince of Cable will ever run for office? Well, to the disappointment to his many fans, Stewart told Winfrey he will "never run for public office," and even denies that he has the power to influence people’s minds on politics saying: "I make jokes. I don't solve problems.
"I deny that I am powerful. Power implies an agenda that's being acted on.... I'm not saying I'm powerless and in a vacuum. But if I really wanted to change things, I'd run for office. I haven't considered that, and I wouldn't — because this is what I do well. The more I move away from comedy, the less competent I become.... If my job became solving problems, I would suddenly become a lot less good at what I do, unless the problem being had by the country was a lack of jokes."
Funny and modest! Now wonder Oprah’s smitten… Sigh…
