When Ricky Gervais said he was going to syndicate ‘The Office’, he wasn’t waxing lyrical.
In fact, the British funny man is planning on rolling out the award winning comedy into China!
Gervais wrote on his blog “I have some amazing news… We are about to start work on developing a Chinese The Office. How cool is that?’
Who would have thought that in 2001, a risky mockumentary set in a paper company in Slough would have blossomed into one of the biggest sitcom franchises in recent history?
The U.S Office is now in its seventh season (season five of which wings its way to Comedy Central soon – watch this space!) and there are even French, German, and Chilean versions doing the rounds.
Gervais added: “I’m worried they will pull out when they see the first episode of An Idiot Abroad though.”
‘An Idiot Abroad’ is the title of the new travel documentary featuring his podcast buddy Karl Pilkington visiting the Seven Wonders of the World.
Aside from dribbling at the sight of his bank balance rising exponentially from ‘The Office’s’ syndication money, Gervais is also currently working on his new sitcom with Stephen Merchant, ‘Life’s Too Short’ starring 'showbiz dwarf' Warwick Davis machine into China.
