Rhys Darby’s scene-stealing role as Murray in the U.S. sitcom ‘Flight of the Conchords’ has already helped him into movies alongside Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel and Philip Seymour Hoffman. But one of his biggest moves yet may be in the pipeline for the kiwi actor because if rumours are to be believed , he’s shifting from his small bland office in the NZ Consulate in New York, to a much larger office previously occupied by Steve Carell.

Darby has been tipped as a possible replacement for Carell after he announced he was leaving the hit U.S. sitcom ‘The Office’. The news of Darby’s potential involvement came from Entertainment Weekly who said that producers of the show had “reached out” to the actor to assess his interest in joining the cast. They had also approached Danny McBride from ‘Eastbound and Down’ and ‘Tropic Thunder’.

While a response from either actor has yet to be reported, Darby’s wonderfully awkward acting style would certainly get our vote for the role. Not that he hasn’t been busy since finishing up on ‘Conchords’, starring in the rom-com ‘Yes Man’ and the UK comedy ‘The Boat That Rocked’. More recently, Darby has made his home on NZ television in the comedy shows ‘7 Days’ and ‘Radiradirah’.

We’ll keep you posted.
