A typically blustery Auckland night couldn’t dampen the spirits of 200 special guests who turned out to watch the filming of Comedy Central’s Roast of Murray Mexted at the Aotea Centre on Thursday night!
Some of New Zealand’s best known and prettiest faces including All Black legend Buck Shelford, current ABs Liam Messam and Jerome Kaino, New Zealand Warriors Michael Luck and Lewis Brown, Beatrice Faumuina, Lorraine Downes, Leigh Hart, a host of Shortland Street stars and many, many more enjoyed a classic Roasting of Mexted, the prominent ex All Black-turned-commentator of New Zealand’s favourite game.

The fantastic set was decked out with goal posts, changing sheds, images from Mexted’s career and grand stand seats for the Roasters. MCeed by New Zealand Sevens great Eric Rush, the night’s roasting was kicked off by Jesse Mulligan, who followed the tradition of giving everyone on stage a hard time before turning his attention to the guest of honour. Phil Kingsley-Jones, Neil Waka, Simon McKinney, Raybon Kan, Leah Panapa and Stu Wilson picked up where Jesse left off, ripping Mexted a new one with topics ranging from his marriage to a former Miss Universe to his commentary missteps and beyond.
Not one to take things lying down, Mexted’s right-of-reply gave him the final say on the night and he certainly didn’t hold back, turning his sharp tongue on the Roasters and wrapping up the night on a high.
Make sure you catch the Comedy Central New Zealand Roast of Murray Mexted when it premieres on Thursday 8th September at 8.30pm!
