The nominations for the second annual ‘Critics’ Choice Television Awards’ have been announced – and comedy has once again proven to be a winner, with a slew of heavy-hitting shows up for a trophy!

Cult fan favourite ‘Community’ is up for six awards, including ‘Best Comedy Series.’ The show will be up against the wildly popular nerd-fest ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ the adorkable Zooey Deschanel-fronted ‘New Girl,’ ‘Parks and Recreation’ and defending champion ‘Modern Family.’

Jim Parsons is up for ‘Best Actor in a Comedy Series’ alongside Larry David and stand-up-turned-series star Louis C.K., while Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Martha Plimpton and Amy Poehler are reppin’ it for the ladies in the ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Series’ category.

Meanwhile Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel’s shows are all contenders for the ‘Best Talk Show’ gong.

The awards are renowned for having a strong focus on comedy properties, as evidenced by their supporting actor/actress comedy award which recognises ensemble based comedy and not just the more high profile star of the show. This year, every cast member from ‘Community’ is up for an award in one category or another!

The nominees are voted on by an association of television critics, with trophies handed out at a gala awards dinner in Beverly Hills on Monday June 18. The awards won’t be televised, but be sure to check on comedycentral.co.nz to find out who went home a winner!
